Crazy Quilt

In the early 1990's I developed a fascination for crazy quilts.  I took a class, and bought some books, and set about trying to learn to do the embroidery that makes classic crazies so busy and full of texture.   I made the one you see below, another big one for my father, and various smaller projects (a vest, hat, smaller pillow, Christmas stockings, etc.) that aren't pictured.

I will be posting photos of my dad's crazy quilt, called "This Crazy World", as soon as I can get some taken.

Fictional Quilt

 "Fictional Quilt"

Completed in the spring of 1991

This was my first crazy patchwork project.  I based each block on  a novel I had read recently.

It has velvet, cotton, silk, lace, corduroy, buttons, beads, and even Shrinky Dinks on it.  Some of the details are embroidered, others are hand painted with Liquitex acrylics.

The images below are details of each block, in the same order in which they appear on the quilt.
